My experience with Tom

 

I met Tom with the arrangement from Wesley Mission Brisbane, this project was to promote the poverty week campagin.

 

Before I met Tom I had a different expectation as to what Tom is like, his age, his interests and his background. In my head I imagined him as a middle age male who was into skating and all things outdoors. I first met Tom at the emergency relief at Wesley missions in Fortitude Valley.

To my surprise Tom was nothing like I expected, he was an older male who was out going and healthy. He didn’t look like he needed help from Wesley at all. After meeting Tom and getting to know him I soon found out that Tom was a wise and knowledgeable man. Tom is in to keeping him and his dogs healthy, Tom likes drinking short machiatos and surfing. Tom is a disciplined man, who would walk his three dogs at 3am in the morning; he would refuse to use public transport because he would rather run to his destinations.

As I get to know Tom more and more I soon realised that this isn’t just an assignment I’m doing anymore, this is a start of a new friendship.
