Loy Kratong, an ancient Buddhist festival, is celebrated and significant to many Thai Buddhists, came around this year. It was hands down one of the most mesmerising sight I've ever laid my eyes on, even though my neck was sore from constantly looking up to the sky. The festival is celebrated differently in each region of Thailand; floating lanterns in North, floating candles in the West, and extravagant boat procession in the East. Being in the North, thousands of lanterns lit up the sky as the people say their prayer, believing their burdens being lifted. The anticipation was high as we approached the area where the Lantern Festival was held, seeing the thousands of people making their way and trying to search for the best spot was an interesting observation. We didn't get to go inside the arena as tickets sold out long before I even thought of attending the festival, we joined in with hundred others who sat on the bank of a small canal, everyone came prepared. We waited until 7:40, the official launch or release I should say, of the lantern. The sky lit up with at least 10,000 lanterns, as the monks chanted their prayers and people wished for luck. A lot was happening at once, some rose to the sky gracefully while some burnt to the ground as tourists participates in the festival.
